Rubber Duckie

Bourton On The Water! Also described as the Little Venice of the Cotswolds. A quintessential English village with a central river, elegant bridges and tree-shaded greens. The idyllic spot for a summer fete complete with jam tasting and afternoon cricket…and of course, the occasional illegal duck race.

This beautiful village seems an unlikely spot for such a “dastardly” crime! Honeyed stone houses, kissing gates and the occasional Edinburgh Woollen shop, hardly the stereotypical crime scene. Let’s find out the details from the Hot Fuzz!

When offices arrived on the scene in Bourton On The Water, Gloucestershire, they were met with  the shocking scene of approximately 100 ducks racing along the river. Before the noise pollution theorists start quacking, these were rubber ducks…and any noise was kept to a bare minimum.

The event had been arranged by a voluntary organisation, involved with delivering medical supplies to local hospitals via motorcycle. It was a family event and all was going well until the sight and sound of the blues and twos turned everything a little bit sour.

The problem started when the police received a phone call complaining that a number of motorcycles were parked along the village green. Allegedly this was in breach of a bylaw which protects the site. The officers asked the owners of the motorcycles to remove them from the grassed area. And of course in true British style, this was done quickly and with minimal fuss. They were also given information about staging further events on the green!

A spokesman for the organisation described the events as “bonkers”! He stated that everyone had been thoroughly enjoying themselves until the police arrived and consequently put a stop to the fun! Others supported the police action highlighting that the area is not authorised to be used for charity events on a Sunday! Others…well they just thought it was plain quackery
