Rooney Robbers Foiled by Intruder Alert System

A gang of masked would-be robbers attempted to burgle Wayne Rooney’s mansion last week as the former England captain was playing in his own testimonial.

Taking advantage of the fact that Rooney’s wife Coleen and their three young sprogs Kai, Kit and Klay were away at Old Trafford to watch the match against his first club, Everton, the opportunists tried to break into the mansion but were scared off by the security alarm system.

£6m million mansion saved by the bell

Rooney owns a luxurious property in Prestbury, Cheshire, believed to be valued at £6 million – and that’s before the contents of the house are taken into consideration. Clearly, there was a huge amount of swag up for grabs, if the dastardly bandits had had their wicked way.

Fortunately, the Manchester United talisman has a top-of-the-range home security installed which saved the family bacon. The ragamuffins struck sometime between 8.30pm and 8.45pm on Wednesday last week, roughly the same time as Wayne would have been tucking into a packet of Roast Beef Monster Munch and a capsule of Sunny Delight during half-time.

Police team at the double

Within minutes of the alarm being triggered, police squads and even a helicopter were on the scene to sniff out the culprits. Unfortunately, the thieves scarpered at the first sign of trouble – but neighbours were impressed by the speed with which the Old Bill turned up.

“Wayne has amazing security to make sure his wife Coleen and the kids are OK while he is away,” said one eye-witness. “It’s like a fortress. It was like something out of a movie with alarms shrieking and search lights flashing on. The police seemed to appear from nowhere. They were swarming all over the place.”

Latest in a string of Rooney robberies

It’s not the first time poor Wayne has been targeted by thieves and ne’er-do-wells. Back in 2006, the Liverpool house of his dear old ma and pa was infiltrated by hoodlums, who made off with some serious booty, including his BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, an England shirt and several caps.

Just a few years later, the Rooney abode was under threat again when a gang of ruffians wearing Eric Cantona masks surrounded his home and warned him off leaving Manchester Utd. At the time, Rooney’s future at the club had been in doubt and disgruntled fans made their sentiments perfectly clear by chanting “Join Man City and you die.” Again, the police were called to the scene and were able to disperse the mob without any violence occurring.
