We’ve probably all indulged in a brief fantasy about what we’d do if we caught someone breaking into our home.

When Viv Hutland, from Leeds, faced a balaclava-wearing burglar in her home one night, she opted instead to simply engage him in conversation.

Incredibly, once Viv and her husband Keith had sat their 17-year-old intruder down, he became quite emotional and even apologised for his actions!

It’s a moving story that shows that not every criminal is a hardened vicious though – but it also serves to show that even an amateur burglar can gain entry to a home if it isn’t properly protected.  Viv and Keith were incredibly lucky that the crime was not completed – and even more so that they weren’t harmed when they interrupted the intruder.
