Mobile Security – Just When You Need It Most!

We talk a lot about how important property security is when it comes to catching the bad guys. But even we didn’t expect to come across this story!

Heidi Burton, from Cambridgeshire, and her Canadian boyfriend Dan Landsborough, were travelling by motorcycle through Guatamala. Like many bikers, Dan wore a camera mounted to the side of his crash helmet – it’s a trick used to capture footage in the event of an accident that can be used in an insurance claim.

But, on the road between San Pedro La Laguna and Santiago Atitlan, Dan and Heidi capture much more than that!

As they rode along this particular road, they were accosted first by a gun-wielding robber, and then by his machete-equipped accomplice.

The digital camera keeps ‘rolling’ as the two criminals take money and valuables from the travellers before – fortunately – letting them go on their way.

“It seemed there were no reports of criminal activity (in the area) since a few years ago,” Ms Burton wrote on her blog. “Dan had taken this route a few weeks back on his motorbike and returned, with no issues.”

“It all happened so quickly, we barely had time to think about the consequences. I read that people have been hurt when resisting robbery in these situations, so we tried to make it a smooth transaction and only really thought about how dangerous it was once it was over.”

Despite their ordeal the couple say they will continue on their travels – it’s good to see the bad guys won’t be winning this one!
