How Expensive Could Your Next False Fire Alarm Be?

In today’s tough economic conditions, businesses need to save every penny and pound they can, just to survive.

None of us likes spending money we don’t need to – which is all the more reason why you need to ensure that your commercial fire alarm system is functioning correctly.  That’s because from last month, London Fire Brigade became the first in the country to begin charging firms for false alarm call outs.

At £290+VAT the fine could prove a nasty sting in the tail for any business that doesn’t keep its alarm system in tip-top condition.

Of course not all false alarms are down to poorly maintained systems – but faulty sensors, old and tired wiring and other aspects of wear and tear can all be factor.

The Brigade insist their move is grounded. In the last financial year they were called to 403 locations more than ten times due to false alarms – at a cost of over £800,000!

In addition to the cost, an LFB representative said the Brigade were concerned that regular false alarms could lead to complacency, meaning that a real fire might not be treated with the urgency required to prevent injury and damage to property.

It’s possible the the LFB won’t be the only brigade considering a move like this – so if it’s been a while since your fire alarm system was tested we suggest you visit our servicing page here, and then contact us here or call direct on 01254 739 255.
