How CCTV Can Catch a Thief – Even if it’s Stolen

There was a time when robbers and thieves could evade capture if they cleaned up after themselves and swiped any CCTV or security cameras containing incriminating evidence – but not anymore. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, CCTV systems can now send the footage straight to the homeowner and upload it safely in the cloud, regardless of whether the physical camera is taken or destroyed.

Two opportunistic burglars found that out to their detriment earlier this month in Worcester Park, Sutton. The pair had been happily ransacking a home on St Clair Drive, filling up their swag bags with cash and jewellery, until one of them noticed the mobile surveillance unit recording their progress. In an attempt to cover their tracks, the pair swiped that as well – but not before it had already uploaded crucial footage of their kissers to a secure site on the internet.

Police plea to catch incompetent crooks

The police have released images from the CCTV which clearly show the faces of both men as they prowled around sneakily in the dead of night on Saturday 2nd July. They are now appealing for information to try and nail the suckers – and with their mugs plastered all over the tabloids, it’s surely only a matter of time before justice is served.

The first suspect is described as a medium-build white man with a goatee beard, wearing a hoodie, dark slacks and trainers, while the second bandit is a slimmer white man with short hair, a chinstrap beard and a light top with dark collar.

The Metropolitan Police have asked for people with any information to call them on 101 and quote the reference number 217923 for the first prowler or 217924 for the second one. Alternatively, they can give Crimestoppers a buzz and leave an anonymous tip-off on 0800 555 111.

Sophisticated technology to safeguard your home

With the unstoppable march of technology comes increased security for your own household. Not only can sophisticated CCTV systems record and log any suspicious activity in or around your home, it can also alert you to the burglary while it’s still in progress, allowing you to contact the police (or cancel it in the case of a false alarm).

What’s more, at Blackburn Alarms we can install intruder alerts, smoke and fog machines and even implement access control systems into your home, allowing you to monitor the comings and goings with a touch of a button and prevent any unwanted visitors from gaining access.
