Hero on horseback!

In the modern world, small towns where everybody knows everybody and people look out for each other, are becoming more and more rare. Yet community spirit was found to be alive and well in a small town in Oregon the other week, when a would-be bicycle thief met his match in the shape of a lasso yielding cattle rancher.

The bike belonged to a lady who was shopping in the Walmart store. As she returned to her bike she witnessed the perpetrator stealing her two wheels. Along with others, she gave chase, but to no avail! However, like the best chase scenes from a cheesy western, all was not lost, as Robert Borba stepped up to the plate.

Speaking to the local press, Borba told the reporter that when he arrived at the scene, he saw the man stealing the bicycle whilst by-passers did their best to stop him. Not one to feel helpless, Borba decided to jump on his horse, pursue the thief  and lasso him to the ground. He said, “ I use a rope everyday, that’s how I make my living. If it catches cattle pretty good, it catches a bandit pretty good too”.

When the police arrived, they found the thief lying on the ground with a rope tied around his ankle. They said a large crowd had gathered to see what all the commotion was about and the man was arrested and later charged with theft.

Many onlookers were amazed as the events unfolded. David Stepp was sitting in his car as the incident happened. He said the scenario was so funny that he was unable to assist due to laughter. Not much is known about Robert Borba, who is seemingly new to the area, however, the locals are keen to welcome him with open arms and have lined up a few drinks on the saloon bar.
