CCTV Catches Suspect in Savage OAP Attack

When burglars strike, it often doesn’t matter who gets in their way.

Their objective may simply be to steal goods and valuables, but with a high risk of conviction and serious consequences, they’ll do almost anything to avoid capture – as one pensioner from Herne Hill discovered to his cost.

the 70-year-old man interrupted an intruder at his home in broad daylight earlier this month.  Despite his age, and the fact that he suffers from dementia, the burglar – who has yet to be identified – attacked him and left him with serious head and facial injuries before making his escape.

The man was discovered lying on the floor some time later by his wife.

The couple were fortunate that their house was covered by CCTV, and we sincerely hope that the footage collected (which shows a man loitering outside the house early in the morning, and then leaving through the front door shortly afterwards) leads the police to identify, capture and convict the person responsible.

However, the story reinforces the urgent need for all homes to fitted with properly working intruder alarms.

A conviction may bring some comfort, but it can’t undo the terrible ordeal the couple have had to endure.
